Selous Scouts MAP 4.5 TCV with mounted MAGs.

Standard

I have now completed all my MAP 4.5 TCVs as per the Selous Scouts conversions. I bought MAGs from Sgts Mess and had a number mounted as twin mounting and changed the one ammo box.

A number had twin 50 cal HMGs as per my previous posts but others had twin MAG mounts, one had a single MAG mount at the front and another a single 50 cal HMG mounting.

I now have to add the chalk call signs on the rear door of the MAP 4.5s. These are listed in the previous article on Operation Miracle and shown in the photos.

Under Fire Miniatures 20mm RhSAS 60mm mortar team.

Standard

Bill of Underfire Miniatures tells us that the latest set of sculpts arrived on Wednesday and went into the post for master moulding yesterday. Aswell as these two chaps here, who will form a 60mm RhSAS mortar team.

I am looking forward to seeing this set. You can make them into regular RAR etc by adding kidney pouches and sleeping bag.

MAP 4.5 TCV basic version as used by all army units.

Standard

This is the basic version that you get from S&S Models and a lovely little model it is to.

At least one basic MAP 4.5 was deployed on Operation Miracle with the RLI unit. See previous posts.

This version could be found operating with most units of the Rhodesian Regular Army as the Merc chassis vehicles were introduced.

I will have to do an article on Tac Markings of the Rhodesian Army but they did change over the years of the Bush War. In fact I might post a simple version that I did for the end of the war but I will do some research for a future post.

Hope you enjoy these photos of the basic version which you can get from S&S Models.

MAP 4.5 TCV SELOUS SCOUTS OPERATION MIRACLE.

Standard

A great model from S&S Models of the MAP 4.5 TCV which was used by the Selous Scouts during Operation Miracle. 8 vehicles were used painted in “Freddie Green”.

These colours I created by using dark green and a touch of Humbrol 48 blue to add realism.

If you are going to do this Selous Scouts version of the MAP 4.5 TCV you will have to ask Shaun at S&S Models for extra spare wheels for each vehicle.

Then a bit of weathering.

The weapons fits have been explained and the 50cal HMGs were from Sgts Mess as well as a packet of Cold War weapons from Sgts Mess JW4 which included MAGs with ammo box attached on a pole. These fit into the plastic rod explained earlier.

You will need to find a pick from some where but Sgts Mess do them in their German WWII range.

I have had to order more packs of JW4  from Sgts Mess for the MAGs to put on the rest of my Selous Scouts column. A future post will show these.

I will also order some crew figures from S&S Models in floppy hats as well as various crew figures from the AB Figures WWII Tank Crew range which will do with a little manipulation.

S & S Models MAP 4.5 TCV (20MM SCALE)

S & S Models MAP 4.5 TCV (20MM SCALE)

I started by cleaning the resin and metal parts and getting rid of any flash.

Various Sgts Mess weapons packs provided 50 Cal HMGs and MAGs for the side mounts and vehicles only mounted with MAGs. Some vehicles had twin MAG mounts on the front cab. One vehicle I believe had a single 50 Cal HMG above the front cab..

Picks shovels and hammers made and provided by my good modelling friend John Spencer who sadly passed away last year.

I have x10 MAP 4.5s so I intend making up x8 as Selous Scouts vehicles as used during Operation Miracle.

Thus they need the spare wheels which I ordered from S& S Models.

Twin 50 Cal were mounted on at least x3 vehicles and the rest with twin MAGs and there may have been one mounted with a single 50 Cal HMG. At the rear there were individual MAGs mounted either side of the vehicle at the rear. See photos of mounts in place.

Note I have attached plastic pieces over the cab roof on which the machine guns are mounted. That piece should be there anyway. Side plates to protect the gunners. A box on the engine compartment.

Plastic rod for mounting poles for side MAGs Plastruct 90603 3/32” 2.4mm. The MAGs fit nicely.
